“Plia" folding chairs in transparent lucite and steel frame. These fantastic chairs were designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli in 1967. These magnificent folding chairs are made of lucite with a steel frame and are in an excellent condition.

The "Plia" folding chair is a true design classic as it has won several awards and is also part of the MoMA collection. The "Plia" chair has a fantastic folding mechanism which allows the chair to be folded very flat so that it can be stored easily. Each chair in this set is signed and engraved with the manufacturer's mark. A multipurpose and iconic set that will be perfect for a modern or minimal project.


Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. He attended the State Institute of Art in Bologna, where he obtained the title of Design Teacher. In 1960 he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti (Fine Arts Academy) of Bologna. Subsequently, for seven years, he was a teacher of Industrial Design at the State Institute of Art of Bologna. During the same period, for 12 years, he worked as interior designer for Anonima Castelli, designing their furniture lines for home, office and communities, for which he registered numerous Industrial and mechanical invention patents. One of his best known projects include these PLIA folding chairs. 
Giancarlo Piretti participates in many Italian design competitions, obtaining prizes and special mentions including for the design of this iconic folding chair.
