Jeanne is a woman of humble origins who, through her beauty, flawless etiquette, and seductive charm, ascends to the heights of Parisian high society. As a courtesan, she captures the heart of Count du Barry, whom she later marries. Their influential friend, the Duke of Richelieu, arranges a fateful meeting with King Louis XV, and unexpectedly, Jeanne and the king fall deeply in love.

At the palace, Madame du Barry is surrounded by luxury, but her rise to prominence is met with jealousy and disdain from the other members of the court. Her beauty sparks envy, and suspicions about her low-born background lead to scorn. The film provides a voyeuristic and entertaining glimpse into the lavish traditions and curious rituals of the French court in the 18th century.

Jeanne du Barry opened this year’s Cannes Film Festival, setting the stage for its sumptuous exploration of courtly life and power dynamics.
