Interior Edit: Brutalist style

Brutalist Architecture

Brutalism emerged as an architecture of conviction, where material was not concealed, but revealed in its most honest form. Concrete was left raw, structures exposed, and geometry allowed to speak without ornament or apology. It was never about decoration, but about presence, a quiet monumentality shaped by light, shadow, and mass.

This philosophy did not remain confined to buildings. It found its way into furniture, where the same principles were translated into a more intimate scale. In the carved cabinets of De Coene, wood becomes architectural, deeply textured, almost hewn rather than crafted, with surfaces that echo the rugged language of béton brut. Each piece feels structural, as if it could belong as much to a façade as to an interior.
