It began with a shift. A quiet departure from the fast pace of fashion into something more lasting, more personal. For founder Twan van de Laar, a dreamer at heart and a creative entrepreneur shaped by his roots in denim & womenswear, that shift led him into the world of interiors and foremost creating beauty & soul.
In the late 2010’s, he followed that instinct. Not only to collect and curate but to shape a way of working that allowed for travel, for discovery, and ultimately for connection with friends that share the same vision.

Over time, Atelier Uma has grown beyond its walls. What started as a place has become a language, one that resonates with clients across the world. From fashion houses such as APC and Filippa K to global names like Nike, brands are drawn to Uma’s distinctive perspective for retail & showroom styling.
At the same time, a more intimate side has unfolded. Residential projects where entire worlds are created, from first sketches and moodboards to fully realized interiors. The founder prefers to call himself a tastemaker rather than an interior designer, shaping direction and intuition, while working closely with in-house designer Ard Langeveld who translates these ideas into form, balancing vision with precision.

The name Uma is derived from the French Une Muse Aime, a beloved muse. A reflection of the people who surround us, inspire us, and unknowingly shape the way we see the world. These muses, from different places, cultures, and disciplines, form the quiet foundation of everything we do.
Housed inside a former church, Atelier Uma exists as a destination. A space where past and present meet in an ever-evolving dialogue. Mid-century forms sit alongside contemporary collectables. Imperfection is embraced. Personal objects, each carrying their own story, are layered into the whole.
Everything you see is part of the narrative. And yes, everything is for sale, but more importantly, everything has a story!
